The conference ‘Development of Adult Education Strategies: Trends and Priorities in Cyprus and Europe’ aims to present, explore and analyse data, developments and opportunities in the field of adult education and lifelong learning in Cyprus and Europe. Through the works of the conference, the exchange of knowledge, views and experiences between experts, researchers and professionals from the field will be encouraged and highlighted.
Charalambos Vrasidas is co-founder and Executive Director of CARDET, an international non-profit research and development organisation based in Cyprus with partners from around the world. He is Professor of Learning Innovations & Policy and Associate Dean for e-learning at the University of Nicosia. He serves on the Executive Committee of the International Council for Educational Media. He is Editor-in-Chief for the scholarly journal Educational Media International. He has published 11 books and more than 100 articles in journals, edited volumes, and conference proceedings. A lifelong learner, a teacher, researcher, innovator, and social entrepreneur, he led the design and implementation of more than 400 initiatives and projects in more than 40 countries. His team coordinated the development of the Cyprus lifelong learning Strategy 2021-2027, in partnership with EAEA and MoECSY.
Andreas Georgiou is the Director of Innovade LI Ltd. He provides guidance, strategic leadership, and engages in research and development. He has practical and strategic experience in different fields of education and innovation. He has participated in various roles in more than 50 national and international projects as project manager, trainer, and researcher, with a focus on entrepreneurship, blended and authentic learning and in the Quality and Evaluation Assurance of projects. Some of his areas of expertise include Lifelong Learning, Social Inclusion, and Information and Communication Technologies.
Gina Ebner is Secretary General of the European Association for the Education of Adults. She worked as a language trainer in adult education and as a pedagogical manager for a vocational training institute in Austria. In Brussels, she was a project manager at EUROCADRES (Council for European professional and managerial staff). She was also president of the Lifelong Learning Platform. She has worked on issues such as gender equality, outreach, validation, life skills, benefits of lifelong learning and many more. She believes in adult learning and education as a central instrument to shape Europe’s future in a positive way and is enthusiastic in advocating for strong adult education communities, structures, policies and civil society.
Dr Nicoletta Ioannou Officer of the European and International Affairs, Lifelong Learning and Adult Education Unit, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth Dr Nicoletta Ioannou is an Assistant Director in primary education. This school year she has been seconded to the European and International Affairs, Lifelong Learning and Adult Education Office of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport and Youth (MoECSY). She holds a Ph.D. in Adult Education by the University of Nottingham. Since 2012, she implements projects for the promotion of the European Agenda for Adult Learning (2012-14, 2014-15, 2017-19 and 2020-2021). She is a member of various Working Groups and Committees for Adult Education and Lifelong Learning, both nationally and at European level.
Christiana Chaperi is an Administrative Officer A’ at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth. She is also responsible for the operation of the National Eurydice Unit. One of her major tasks as a Eurydice Officer, is to ensure that Cyprus participates in the comparative reports produced by the Network, which show how countries tackle challenges at all levels of education: early childhood education and care, primary and secondary education, higher education and adult learning and training. She is also in charge of the Network’s promotion through several channels such as the press, social media, and conferences.
Marios Zittis works as a Project Manager and Researcher at CARDET. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Sciences from the University of Cyprus. For the past four years he has been working on EU-funded projects in the fields of adult education, vocational education and training, and youth, revolving around entrepreneurship, digital skills, and XR technologies. He coordinates the organisation’s activities in its role as the EPALE ambassador in Cyprus.
